The presence of humans, the processes they deploy to produce usable forms of energy and the exploitation of natural resources influence the Earth's morphology and climate as well as other living organisms. Human activities have caused a change in global climate and the extinction of species and thus, they have affected the biodiversity of our planet.
Connection to Big Idea about energy: The exploitation of Earth's natural resourses and of non-renewable forms of energy by humans impact the entire planet, its systems and ecosystems.
Connection to Big Idea about evolution: Human activities can affect the natural environment, alter the biosphere and natural habitats and thus cause the extinction of some species. They interfere with the natural evolutionary process that leads to the unity and biodiversity necessary for ecosystems to thrive.

About
PLATON is a two-year European project launched on September 2016. It aspires to provide teachers and school communities with a coherent teachers’ training framework which will update their current teaching practices. More particularly, PLATON aims to offer an open and innovative training framework to teachers of primary and secondary education which will focus on:
- Promoting student-centred teaching approaches;
- Promoting a holistic interdisciplinary approach;
- Support the use of online educational tools;
- Support the meaningful collaboration between teachers of the same school.
