Earth's existence is directly related to the Sun. The Sun is the source of life for our planet as it is its only source of energy. The distance between the Earth and the Sun is also crucial for the existence of life, as it defines the average temperature on the planet. The motions of Earth around the Sun cause different phenomena, like seasons and the succession of day and night. Earth will be destroyed when the Sun reaches the end of its lifetime in approximately 5 billion years.

Connection to Big Idea about forces: Earth is subject to the gravitational pull of the Sun and is largely affected by the Sun’s electromagnetic field and phenomena that are caused because of it (solar flares).
