Forces > Forces and motions > 2 Dimensional Motions
2-dimensional motions are motions that occur in two dimensions (the object is moving in a flat surface). Depending on the forces acting on the object, they can have constant or varying velocity. They can be described with equations using two spatial variables and one time variable.
Connection to Big Idea about energy: Any object in motion possesses kinetic energy.
Connection to Big Idea about the universe: 2D motions require the existence of a force. On a macroscopic scale, 2D motions in our universe occur due to the existence of gravity. Orbits are an example of 2-dimensional motion, such as the Earth’s orbit around the Sun.
Connection to Big Idea about particles: 2D motions require the existence of a force. Small particles like all objects can perform 2D motions. These motions can be due to the existence of the electromagnetic force (Coulomb force). During a nuclear decay, particles can move in 2D trajectories due to the act of the weak force.

PLATON is a two-year European project launched on September 2016. It aspires to provide teachers and school communities with a coherent teachers’ training framework which will update their current teaching practices. More particularly, PLATON aims to offer an open and innovative training framework to teachers of primary and secondary education which will focus on:
