Breaking down inquiry into its components and introducing them to teachers progressively as a series of small adaptations

PLATON will introduce an alternative training method for teachers, which focuses not only on introducing inquiry as a whole but, most importantly, on breaking down inquiry into its components and introducing them to teachers progressively as a series of small adaptations. The ‘Inquiry under the microscope’ toolkit will include all the necessary tools and materials for
introducing to teachers the inquiry learning approach through a methodology that allows the progressive and on-going integration of inquiry components in the science class. This
methodology will allow teachers to start by rethinking their way of teaching and the way they collaborate with other teachers, and then, continue with making alterations by adding
inquiry components gradually, one after the other, into their teaching style. Moreover, this will enable teachers to progressively shift from a teacher-centred approach to an inquiry
learning approach
, more smoothly, namely through a series of meaningful and small adaptations that, overall, constitute the foundations needed for implementing inquiry into
everyday classroom settings.




PLATON is a two-year European project launched on September 2016. It aspires to provide teachers and school communities with a coherent teachers’ training framework which will update their current teaching practices. More particularly, PLATON aims to offer an open and innovative training framework to teachers of primary and secondary education which will focus on:

- Promoting student-centred teaching approaches;

- Promoting a holistic interdisciplinary approach;

- Support the use of online educational tools;

- Support the meaningful collaboration between teachers of the same school.
